Last week, I came across a note which says; 'Your personality isn't the first thing noticed about you, your style is'. Really? I thought. Apparently, people tend to second-guess your personality by how you look. As much as style can be a cover up for people's personality, a strong perception can be formed on sight. You hear statements like, 'He looks fit for the job', 'People who wear glasses are intelligent', 'That guy looks proud', 'That dude looks rich'... This tells us that a person's style matters and it tells something that might just be right about that person. However, for some of us who cannot afford every fashion trendy pieces, it is important that we look for ways to put together what we have in order to still look great, put together and admirable. I'll really love to talk extensively on personal style but let me start with these few important notes before delving into it; 1. People meet you (i.e. your style) before meeting you and that is because... 2. Style most times, revolves around your personality. 3. Perceptions are formed based on how you look, so, you might want to give more importance to your style. 4. You don't need to have every trendy piece to look super stylish. You can be creative with what you have.
5. Investing in timeless pieces is the best fashion investment. If you are able to style them well, you will never look out of fashion. 6. Pictures of admired styles store up in one's memory and form a source of inspiration. Source inspiration from style icons you really admire, take note of the details of what they wear and how they wear them. However, don't copy exactly what you see. What you see is supposed to be just a guide. 7. As much as being comfortable is key when considering style, try to step out of your comfort zone once in a while. Don't be afraid to mix patterns that complement or try out bright colours or statement pieces. 8. Knowing your body shape helps you to know which styles work best for you. 9. Accessorizing is key; accessories are not just jewelries. Bags, hats, scarves, belts, sunglasses...are accessories. Have you seen how attaching a pretty scarf to a cute little bag can make a whole difference? Invest in accessories, they are the spice of style. 10. It doesn't matter your skin colour, you can still be freaking stylish. Knowing the colours that best suit your skin (but not limited to them) can help a great deal. Comfort and confidence in your skin is one of the best style tips ever. ... to be continued
